Dear Shapleigh families,
I hope this letter finds you enjoying the weather and the pace of summer. I hope you have been able to participate in the activities that make summer special. For those of you returning, welcome back, and for the new class of 4th graders, I look forward to meeting you!
As I’m sure you know, when we next see each other in school we will all be wearing masks or face coverings and following CDC recommendations of hand washing and social distancing, so I ask that you find a couple of comfortable masks and prepare yourself for some things to be different from last September.
In order to keep all of our school members as safe as possible there will be strict guidelines enforced about only coming to school when healthy.
Within the next few weeks you will be receiving a detailed letter from the three School Nurses in the district, Shay Stathoplos, Betsy Burke and myself. It will answer some questions and provide some guidelines for returning to school as safely as possible.
We will not be offering “sports physicals” this year. We have a seasonal flu vaccine day scheduled for October 1st and I will send permission slips home after the start of school.
Please send updates about any changes in your student’s health status. These include things like asthma, allergies, or new medications. I can’t emphasize enough the value of having an allergy action plan or an asthma action plan on file for your student.
I am also requesting that a copy of any updated immunizations be faxed, emailed or sent in for their health file. The State of Maine requires students entering the 7th grade to receive their Tdap booster (prevents pertussis, diphtheria and tetanus) and their meningococcal vaccine prior to their enrollment in September, so if you have not supplied that to us already, please ask their physician’s office to fax their record to 207-439-9958.
Again, I’m looking forward to seeing students and families when school starts in September, but if you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please email me at email@example.com or I will be available by phone any time after August 25th and please look for the letter coming from the school nurses!
With warmest regards,
Brenda Bladen RN
