Traip School Nurse

 Traip School Nurse

My name is Melissa Cantara, while this is my first year at Traip Academy it is my fourth year in the Kittery School District. As the School Nurse, my role is focused on helping students navigate medical, emotional and mental health issues so they can remain in class and access their academics. Chronic health conditions and acute injuries are shared with the student's educators and coaches in order to provide any needed accommodations to help maintain academic success.

A little history about me. I became a registered nurse in 2010. I have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Southern Maine. I have worked in surrounding seacoast hospitals having held positions in Medical Surgical Nursing, Cardiac Nursing, Nursing Administration and Nursing Informatics. In addition to working at Traip Academy, I also work per diem at York Hospital and as an aesthetic nurse.

I have two children, a 13-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter, so I empathize with the struggles and importance of a child’s health and wellbeing in school. I love being outdoors whether it be hiking, skiing, camping, relaxing at the beach or kayaking, I love cheering on my children’s sports teams and I love being a nurse.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with anything, if I don’t know the answer, I will always look into finding it!

I look forward to navigating this school year with you!
